For instance, simply hitting the Space bar in Commander One doesn’t invoke Quick Look like it does in the Finder. In my opinion, the entire app feels cobbled together and lacking in polish. Unfortunately, none of the features found in Commander One work as well as they do in other apps. I gave Commander One a test run for the last two weeks and compiled my thoughts below. I won’t go into all the features, you can read about them on the website.

But if you do need it, the concept of having FTP built-in to Finder windows is certainly enticing.Īlong with it’s marquee FTP feature, Commander One offers the ability to theme it’s file manager window, access a Processes window (similar to Apple’s own Activity Monitor), a built-in Terminal, various file sorting capabilities, integration with Dropbox and more. In fact, other than web developers, I suspect there are few people who need FTP anymore, or even know what it is. The need for an FTP Manager today is rather limited. The biggest feature of Commander One is the built-in FTP file manager.

But Commander One promises to offer Path Finder-level features, plus a built-in FTP manager, at an affordable price through the Mac App Store-where you have the luxury of installing it on five Macs at a time. This is nothing new XtraFinder does this to some extent, and and Path Finder have done these things for years. It simply recreates Finder windows and adds a multitude of tweaks and features to them.
After looking at the feature list of Commander One, I immediately wondered if it could possibly deliver on the promises it made.Ĭommander One is what you would call a Finder Enhancement app. Is there a way to move the fuzzy slider and have it display on the screen everything it has found as you move the slider so you can set the fuzzy level to just the right level? Maybe something in the menu that is a check for “Active Fuzzy Image Display” when the display box is checked. When I decided to take a look at Commander One, I did so with the expectation that I was going to be looking at something that was equal to or better than apps I was already familiar with and/or used on a regular basis-such as XtraFinder, Path Finder, Transmit, etc. Changed it to front window and Window with index of 1 but still no luck have the time. I have moved the slider all over the place to see if I can get it to work. Even when I run it on the same Finder window I took it on Keyboard Maestro doesn’t find the image. Strange thing is this macro only works ocationally I can’t seem to get a consistent screenshot. It is like it has a limit to how wide it will go. So this may not actually solve the original problem.įor me what broke is it does resize all the columns in El Capitan but it still truncates some of the longer file names. In all sincerity thanks Keyboard Maestro and this forum for again helping people enhance their workflow, I love you!Īs far as I can see, option-double-clicking on column the separators no longer resizes all columns, it only resizes one column to fit. Now if there were only some app that let you drag folders into other folders and keep coping and nesting folders and files like Windows has done for 15+ years instead of giving you the option to replace like Mac does. "Show colorful icons on the sidebar" is wonderful to have back again after all these years! I can actually tell what is what again much faster. I understand why they got rid of it when they added multiple colors as part of tags, Xtra Finder is smart and just colors it the last color or tag color in your list if you have multiple. Thanks for pointing that out I wouldn't have found that if you hadn't mentioned it, I had to reread multiple times to find even when you did point it out, it is named "Legacy label color painting". The two things I love it for are the aforementioned column resizing and the ability to color color file names by tag, rather than just display the colored dot.
